Patrick Coffey and Dave Mattson each have over 25 years of experience in pharmaceutical automation, instrument design, and biochemical process engineering. 

Patrick Coffey has managed automation and computerized instrument design for Biotage, Waters, Mattson Instruments, and Nicolet Instruments.  He specializes in the design of Part 11-compliant electronic systems for the pharmaceutical industry.  Together with Dave Mattson, he co-founded Mattson Instruments, a leading FT-IR manufacturer.  He developed the Automation Explorer™ while at Coffey Analysis (see the Products page on this website); developed the Parallex, Flex, and Pilot parallel purification systems while at Biotage; and authored the first software using FT-IR as a real-time chromatographic detector while at Nicolet.  See Patrick Coffey's resume.

Dave Mattson has managed instrument design at Dekorra Optics, Mattson Instruments, and Nicolet Instruments.  He founded Dekorra Optics, and founded Mattson Instruments in collaboration with Pat Coffey.  He specializes in custom design and manufacture of UV, Visible, and IR detectors.  At Dekorra, he developed a four-channel parallel UV detector for preparative chromatography; at Mattson Instruments and Nicolet, he developed entire lines of innovative FT-IR spectrometers and accessories.
